Both are common Florida Gulf finds, but one is a true conch and one is not. A quick guide to telling them apart.

The Diagnostic Notch

True conchs (family Strombidae) have a stromboid notch — a small U-shaped indentation near the anterior end of the aperture. The fighting conch always has one. The crown conch never does.
