What to Bring Beachcombing
The best beachcombing kit is light, simple, and kind to the coast. Here's everything worth packing.
The Essentials
- A mesh collection bag (sand and water drain out)
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a sun hat
- Polarized sunglasses to spot shells underwater
- A reusable water bottle
- Water shoes or sturdy sandals
Nice to Have
- A pocket shell identification guide
- A small notebook for logging finds
- A soft brush for cleaning sandy shells
- A phone or camera for the ones you leave behind
Leave Behind
Skip anything single-use. Take only empty shells, and leave living creatures and their homes undisturbed.
